Jeddah Metro

As part of the Foster + Partners design team, we get involved in the design process of the Jeddah Metro project, located in Saudi Arabia.

Taking a long-term, sustainable approach, which anticipates growth centuries from now, the vision for Jeddah’s transport network includes the design of metro, ferry, bus, cycle, public spaces and nodes of development. The comprehensive plan extends from the design of the stations to the trains and branding. In addition, the development of the metro system will create a new urban amenity for the city of Jeddah at key locations below the elevated track.

Rion Photovoltaic Park

Mapping Gefyra’s S.A. infrastructures

An external collaboration with Gefyra S.A. aiming to produce analytical drawings of the built infrastructures of the company in the areas of Rion and Antirrio. Gefyra S.A. is responsible for the design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation of Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge one of the world’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges (2,880 m).

Rio Logistic

The project is located in the industrial area of Rion (Port of Patras) and focuses in the design of a logistic building of 1700 sqm. The building is conformed by offices, an exhibition space and a warehouse. The commercial uses of the building are positioned in the front part facing the main road whereas the industrial use is located in the backside, making it accessible by tucks. The project includes the detailed design of the main structure.

Nafpaktos Residence

The project is located in the seaside area of Palaiopanagia (Nafpaktos) and focuses on the design of a residential building of 200 spm for a family of four. The different functions of the house are divided in two main categories, creating a dichotomy between public and private areas. Taking this division into consideration as the main concept of the architectural design, the proposed building consist two clearly defined volumes. While on the ground level the communal areas are accommodated in direct dialogue with its environment (free plan), the first level is conformed by the private spaces. This design had to follow different specifications established by the council, such as sizing, roof shape, and window to floor ratio.

The intervention is located in the area of Metaxourgeio (Athens) and it regards the dispersion of nodes of production in the urban tissue. The production is organized in terms of mass customization, which presupposes the direct communication of the design model and its production machines (Computer Numerical Control). Taking this scheme into consideration and using it as the main concept of the architectural proposal, the resulting building consists of two volumes, according to the F2F (File to Factory) procedure. The first part concerns the design of the product (digital production) and the second one, relates to its physical production.

The research focuses in the detailed architectural design of two proposed nodes in the streets of Keramikou (500 spm) and Agiou Orous (520 sqm). The aim is to have a close interaction with its surroundings, while establishing an architectural vocabulary for the further future interventions of the system.

Public Service Multiple Functions Building S.A.D.A.S.

The project is located in the area of Exarcheia (Athens) focusing on the design of a building complex that accommodates multiple cultural functions. Those functions are arranged in split level floor plans around a central atrium. A free helical path is thus created leading the people to flow from the atrium through the road level up to the meeting area on the first floor. The internal layout of the building and the horizontal and vertical circulations are projected on the elevations, emphasizing the varied internal uses.
